Coasts & IslandsLos RoquesWith only one island (Gran Roque) fully inhabited, the fifty-plus jewel-like Caribbean islands of Los Roques form an extensive, pristine national marine park 85 miles offshore. As well as the impressive array of marine life forms seen while snorkelling or diving in the clear warm waters, there are pelicans, frigatebirds, endemic lizards and five species of sea turtle. Normal daily practice is to take the shared hotel boat over to a small island with cool box and parasol and spend the day on the beach, snorkelling, swimming and relaxing. Private boat hire is available for independent island-hopping – highly recommended if you wish to escape the other visitors. Colonial and historic, Gran Roque maintains the feel of a small fishing village, yet has many small posadas, restaurants, bars, dive shops and other services from which to choose.
MorrocoyMorrocoy National Park’s mainland mangrove shoreline, with its flocks of scarlet ibis, gives way to nearby palm-fringed coral cays (islands) offering good snorkelling and diving. Day trips by boat to the cays are part of any stay at one of the small, comfortable posadas, with picnic lunch and mask and fins provided for your enjoyment.
The Paria PeninsulaIn 1498, Colombus made his first and only landfall on mainland South America at this isolated, 80-mile long peninsula which points like a finger to the island of Trinidad a few miles away. Nothing much has changed since – it still has miles of deserted beaches, few roads, small friendly fishing villages and plenty of forest. Perfect for those looking for unspoilt nature and longing to be free of telephones, TVs, nightlife and tourist development.

I would just like to write and tell you how much we enjoyed our trip to Venezuela...the organisation was superb and we were very well looked after...The itinerary was excellent - we had four very different areas, all so unique and special in their own ways.... [In the Llanos] we even saw a jaguar which is very rare...We cannot recommend Venezuela enough. It is a very special place and for those with a spirit of adventure and who love nature in all its splendour... it should not be missed...Again thank you for organising the trip so well - we shall look forward to going for more adventures with Reef and Rainforest in the future.
