Amazonia

The far south of Venezuela falls within the Amazon region, and thus has vast tracts of primary rainforest and huge jungle rivers. However, it is smaller and far less visited than other countries’ Amazonian areas, and there are few accommodation options from which to choose. But once there, one revels in the sense of isolation and lack of other tourists, travelling by boat along deserted rivers, visiting remote indigenous villages and seeing toucans flying overhead.

Reached by light aircraft over miles of virgin rainforest with scarcely any sign of humanity, the isolated yet comfortable lodge is set on the impressive Ventuari River, one of the mighty Orinoco’s main tributaries and lined by virtually unbroken forest. I would just like to write and tell you how much we enjoyed our trip to Venezuela...the organisation was superb and we were very well looked after...The itinerary was excellent - we had four very different areas, all so unique and special in their own ways.... [In the Llanos] we even saw a jaguar which is very rare...We cannot recommend Venezuela enough. It is a very special place and for those with a spirit of adventure and who love nature in all its splendour... it should not be missed...Again thank you for organising the trip so well - we shall look forward to going for more adventures with Reef and Rainforest in the future.
