ZanzibarIn fact an archipelago of islands incorporating Unguja to the south and Pemba to the north, Zanzibar has been captivating travellers for centuries. Its Arabian origins are reflected in the historic capital, Stone Town, a fascinating warren of narrow streets, overhanging balconies and huge, intricately carved wooden doors. Zanzibar has superb white sand beaches and some of the best snorkelling and diving in Africa, Pemba being particularly good. The main island’s interior is a colourful mix of spice plantations and rainforests inhabited by bush babies and the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey.
