Southern Caribbean Coast

Displaying a strong Afro-Caribbean influence, this is Costa Rica’s main backpacker base where many young surfers and travellers come to enjoy inexpensive accommodation, internet cafes and surfing beaches. For others, however, the draw is the unspoilt environment, with rainforest reaching down to the beach and prolific bird and animal life to be observed. 

Selva Bananito Lodge

An ideal extension option for our Sample Itinerary No.6, this is a real gem of a lodge. Friendly, small, German-run and found down a rough track off the main coast road, it has tidy bungalows, an open-sided main building and a private rainforest reserve in which zip-lining can be enjoyed and much wildlife found.
