Lake Kivu

Running along Rwanda’s western edge, the tranquil and exceedingly deep lake has volcanic origins. With green, terraced hills and surprisingly good beaches, Kivu is the recreation capital of the country.

Kivu Sun Hotel

A relatively new four-star hotel with modern facilities yet maintaining a small-hotel feel. There are a good pool and beautiful beach on the lake shore, and hundreds of fruit bats fly overhead at night. The hotel is used by an eclectic mix of NGO workers, ardent naturalists, wealthy Rwandans and foreign tourists.
