This large north eastern state displays a strong African influence and holds an abundance of attractions. Serious trekkers will appreciate the scenery and trails of the Chapada Diamantina National Park; lovers of Latin colonial architecture can marvel at the perfectly preserved Historic Centre of Salvador, once the country’s capital. However, the main draw for visitors is the beautiful coast, much of it natural and unspoilt. If looking for a lively time while at the beach, one can stay at fashionable Trancoso, expanding Praia do Forte or busy Itacare: we tend to look for quieter, more natural locations.

Fazenda Corumbau

An isolated seaside boutique hotel a short charter flight south of Porto Seguro, Corumbau has spacious modern rooms, a large swimming pool, a two-kilometre beach and an imaginative restaurant. Enjoy mangrove and beach walks, boat trips for snorkelling, river kayaking and cycling to the nearby fishing village. Humpback whales frolic offshore from July to October.
