THE HERITAGE, FORESTS AND CORAL REEFS OF SRI LANKA’S NORTH EAST

WilpattuNow that the war in Sri Lanka is well and truly over, the delights of the north and east cry out to be rediscovered - and what delectable delights they are. Wilpattu National Park has remained untouched by tourism for a quarter of a century, so you could find yourself almost alone while driving around the vast, strange forests, emerging at numerous villu (small lakes) where much of the wildlife congregates. Leopard, elephant, water buffalo, wild boar, sloth bear, sambar, spotted deer, fishing cat, black naped hare and mongoose are among the 31 mammal species found there; monitor lizard, and hundreds of bird species may also be seen while based at your comfortable tented camp sited within the park. Staying at a luxury hotel next, explore Buddhist sites and ancient cities, and climb a rock fortress before going on a fascinating elephant safari. Then come the beaches and coral reefs just north of Trincomalee, the best in all Sri Lanka - Pigeon Island is the epitome of these. Blue whales are often seen offshore early on in the season. Your resort only opened in May, 2010, and offers comfortable, cool rooms and a long beach frontage. The food is excellent too. Experience north east Sri Lanka with us. With all meals and a huge number of excursions included, and ably escorted by one of our trusted guides with your own private vehicle, we promise you won’t be disappointed.
