Guyana Wildlife Tour

We have selected Guyana’s premier natural history highlights to produce a Guyana wildife tour of great breadth affording the potential for encounters with some of South America’s most engaging mammals – giant river otter, giant anteater, red howler monkey and, with lots of luck, the elusive jaguar – and hundreds of bird species.  One will gain a good insight into the vastness of this little-known and largely intact nation of few people, vast forests, wide savannahs and sweeping vistas.

 Day 
  1. Depart London.  Connect via Barbados to Georgetown.  O/n Cara Lodge.
  2. Fly across the rainforest to the Essequibo River.  Boat tfr to lodge at Iwokrama. Explore trails. Night cruise. O/n Iwokrama Field Station, FB. 
  3. Day at Iwokrama. Wildlife spotting by boat, walk rainforest trails to Turtle Mountain, visit Kurupukari Falls for petroglyphs.  O/n Iwokrama Field Station, FB. 
  4. Canopy Walk. Tfr to Surama.  Visit  village. Night walk. O/n Surama Ecolodge, FB.
  5. Morning wildlife walk/ boat trip at Surama.  Tfr to Rock View.  O/n Rock View Lodge, FB.
  6. Day at leisure at Rock View.  Optional: horse riding with local vaqueros, hiking in the Pakaraima Mountains, visit Amerindian communities.  O/n Rock View Lodge, FB. 
  7. Tfr by 4x4 to Rupununi River. Boat tfr to Karanambu.  Afternoon with resident otters or exploring waterways. O/n Karanambu Ranch, FB.

  9. Full day exploring the rivers and savannahs of Karanambu. Evening excursion to the Crane Pond. O/n Karanambu Ranch, FB.
