Description: The Antarctic Dream is a Dutch built ice-strengthened expedition ship, fully refurbished in 2002. This 10-night expedition cruise offers an ideal introduction to the 'White Continent'. Departing from and finishing in the port of Ushuaia take in the most exciting sights of the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula accompanied by lecturers and guides.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Ushuaia and board the Antarctic Dream in the afternoon. (D)

Day 2 & 3: Wandering albatross, storm petrels and other seabirds will escort the vessel as it sails across the legendary Drake Passage. (FB)

Day 4: In the morning visit the Argentine scientific base Jubany on King George Island, the largest island of the South Shetlands. In the afternoon disembark at Aitcho Island to look for gentoo and chinstrap penguins, and weddell and elephant seals. (FB)

Day 5: Today is the first landing on the 'White Continent' at Neko Bay, and another on Port Lockroy (Gaudier Island). (FB)

Day 6: Sail through the narrow Lemaire passage and conditions permitting visit Petermann Island which is the most southern land point of the expedition. Disembark to see colonies of gentoo and adelie penguins, skuas and blue-eyed shags. (FB)

Day 7: Begin the return journey with a visit to Paradise Bay where icebergs break off and are carved in to wonderful shapes by the wind and the sea. In the evening visit Cuverville Island, home to one of the largest colonies of gentoo penguins and skuas. (FB)

Day 8: Continue sailing to Deception Island, the largest active volcano in the area, and an opportunity to swim in the flooded crater. In the afternoon disembark at Hannah Point (Livingstone Island) which is an excellent location to spot fauna. (FB)
