Nicoya Peninsula

Dry deciduous tropical forest containing many species of birds and mammals is  Nicoya’s main habitat (much of which has been converted to cattle pasture) but the main draw to visitors is its dry climate and miles of attractive Pacific beaches. This is a great area in which to unwind and relax either before or after a full tour itinerary in the interior, staying in high quality resorts and hotels and enjoying swimming, riding, surfing, diving or boating.

Punta Islita
Accessible by dirt road or private airstrip, the main hotel is perched on the hillside with wonderful views to sea. There is also an exclusive guests’ beach club with good restaurant and pool with wet bar a short distance away where it is tempting to spend time relaxing, swimming or surfing. The rooms and villas are tastefully decorated.

Latitude 100
Situated near Tambor, this charming boutique hotel with a sustainable ethos boasts a private Pacific beach, well-appointed bungalows and landscaped grounds including woodland. When not wishing to surf, you can use the pool for gentle swimming.

Capitan Suizo
On the edge of the lively town of Tamarindo, the Swiss-run hotel has direct beach access, a child-friendly pool, lush gardens (often visited by iguanas and howler monkeys), a well-regarded restaurant and pleasant rooms and villas.
