Beaches and Islands Testimonials

Beaches & Islands

Malaysian Borneo contains outstanding beaches and small tropical
islands, many offering fantastic snorkelling, diving and nesting turtles.
Just offshore from Kota Kinabalu is the Tunku Abdul Rahman National
Park, a collection of islands with rainforest trails and good snorkelling.
Further up the coast is the Rasa Ria Resort which has a two-mile beach
and private rainforest reserve where orang-utans can be seen.

Selingan Island

The island lies off the east coast and is part of the Turtle Islands
National Park where green and hawksbill turtles come to nest on a
near- ni ghtly basis - you can sometim es help release the young
hatchlings back into the sea.

Lankayan Island

Turtles also come to nest on this lovely island which has a beautiful
white sand beach and fringing coral reef with snorkelling and diving
directly from the shore.

Sipadan Island

Further south lies an underwater paradise made famous by Jacques
Cousteau who described Sipadan as his “untouched piece of art”. Here
you can snorkel and dive with huge shoals of reef fish, large numbers of
turtles and the odd shark or two. For competent divers, the ultimate
experience is the Turtle Cavern, a vast underwater cave littered with
the skeletons of countless turtles. Although there is no accommodation
on Sipadan, the nearby islands of Mabul and Kapalai have good
accommodation, a profusion of ‘macro’ species and are only a 15
minute boat ride from Sipadan.

Layang Layang

The island is a diving Mecca on the Borneo Banks, a site famous for
fantastic reef diving and the thrill of schooling hammerhead sharks.
